The Boundary Hotel: the socialites' rooftop

In East London, The Boundary Hotel is an trendy institution, created by Terrance Conran by converting a Victorian warehouse into a hotel. Since then, those in the know flock here for a mini-escape from city life and from the grimy streets below.

Once up on the roof, enjoy incredible 360 degree views of industrial Shoredich and the City skyscrapers beyond through the glass-walled terrace. The chic teak wood tables and abundant plantings of wild herbs and olive trees give an instant Mediterranean ambiance. Feeling chilly? There are outdoor heaters and snuggly blankets to keep you snug. Even more genius is the glass-roofed restaurant, strung with grapevines and fairy lights- allowing you to dine “outside” even on dreary days.

What to enjoy? Mediterranean fare such as tartines, seafood and salads. We loved the sharing plate of hors d’oeuvres (£10) with artichokes, hummus, spiced aubergine, and saucissons, with a glass of rose (£6). With a big group? Try a cocktail pitcher to serve several (£25) of  the N*8 smash (Langley N*8 gin, grapes, mint leaves, St-Germain elderflower liqueur, and apple juice).

Who else is here? City- finance types who are on a break, hipsters and artsy/media from the neighborhood. Our tip? Start early and stay all day- once you have a table, you are welcome to stay as long as you like.
